some sell comics, some sell TPB's and some sell original art or pinups or sketchbooks.. it completely depends on whatever it is that they decide to bring along!! MOst give you a free sketch with the purchase of a sketchbook or some other merchandise...just wait and see. Or wait till you see me and ask me

fast sketches were free, but commission/sketches were around 20-40 and complete commissions between 150-200 I believe. That was by the way only Adam Hughes who did complete commissions between 150-200 and fast sketches for free.

Update www.ericbasaldua.com September 2008 totalling 900 pics: Ultimate FF/Xmen: pencilled cover and bad news. Artwise: talking about Ultimate FF/Xmen, Skuulgrls, Broken Trinity, Mary Jane, Hunter/Killer, Beyond Wonderland. Covers: Broken Trinity (2), Beyond Wonderland. Fan Colors: Magdalena 2_3, Pirate Grrl. Sketches: Tigra, AIX, Alice, Gambit, Supergirl. Witchblade/Devi: better colorscans of the previewpages. Magdalena v.2: better scan of the virgin cover to #2. Commissions: Mary Jane, Schoolgrrls. Zenescope: cover to Beyond Wonderland. Jayco: way bigger scan to Purgatori #1. I think this will be the last update for the next couple of weeks...Ebas coming to Belgium and me taking loads of pics of that show, will probably result in a complete new part to the site

Will the artist also do commissions? I saw Adam Hughes and Stefano Roux do some amazing color work last year, would love to see that again (and maybe buy one this time:) Maybe a workshop of some sort?? It is just amazing to see some of the artist at work!!

@boomvavavoom: Hello again. It's been awhile, since last year actually. Nice work on the Ebas site, BTW. I've a question for you. It's related to the discussion we had last year about commissions and Adam Hughes in particular. This time, I prefer asking in advance in order to avoid any misunderstandings or disappointments. What will be Eric's main reason for being at FACTS? Will he be there to meet as many fans as possible, have a nice chat, do some sketches, sign some comics etc... or is he simply there to take a limited number of commissions (more or less my experience with AH last year)? If it's the later, I would like to know in advance. I put a pile of comics ready (actually, three, as there's other artists I'm interested in as well), but I'm not gonna drag it along just to wait 3-4 hours in line and come to the conclusion that the artist prefers concentrating on his commissions. Now, DON'T GET ME WRONG. I'm NOT debating whether or not commissions are too expensive (Ebas asks around $200 for a full body shot, from what I've read) and I really don't mind spending some money (prints, comics, moderate contribution etc... ) either. But I still believe that a convention is not the place to do time consuming, expensive commissions. There's really no reason to come to a convention for this. Most artists will take commissions through the internet (their own site or eBay...). I've bought some myself in the past. I would simply like to know if this will be a "main focus on commissions" appearance or a more traditional con appearance. I really love your initiative of having a limited print BTW. That's cool! Having the chance to buy some limited piece (e.g. print, comic...), have some comics signed, have a little chat with the artist and maybe even get a quick sketch for a moderate contribution. That's the way I personally like it!

well, I can't resist not reacting to the previous message... I defenitely hope that the artists will take convention commissions (defenitely if it is like Adam Hughes last year ..everybody could get something ..he did 2 or 3 sessions of quik/ free sketches and after that you could watch the artist draw commissions). I love to see a artist draw a piece from start to finish (doesn't matter if it is in a workshop or convention commissions ..as long as it is serious work, not the quik headshots). The only place I can see that is at a convention. As far as I know at comic related conventions (in USA, UK, Italy and Germany), artist do commission work on the convention itself (ussually it is cheaper than ordering through the website). The only conventions that I know that the artists only give you a quik freebie is in the Netherlands (but they are strip conventions ..as good as no comic artists there...). I love the work they do and think it is amazing if you could see the master at work! ..but then again I guess it is up to the artist

short answer since I am going to my kiddo's NOW
Ebas is doing con-commissisions which means that he takes on commissions and does them late at night at his hotelroom
this leaves the convention open for signing and (quick) sketches
tomorrow I will be more elaborate

Since you made me an Ebas Lover, I am wondering what to expect. Could I bring in his 2005 sketchbook-work and make him sign it? Or am I insulting the man if I do? Otherwise, I realy do not care. I just love to see all this. So if I do not even get a chance to get an autograph, but just see him working on something, I am a happy camper too.

I'm thinking he will find it very pleasanting to see someone with his sketchbooks because that are mostly the persons you appreciate his art. They don't happen to have a comic with art of him.

I do kind'a disagree that it has always been like this, though. I've been going to conventions for about 20 years and it's only the last couple of years and especially with today's artists that this has become common. Sure, there was always the fact that some artists did sketches for free, while others asked for some form of payment Some did very quick sketches, while others did more detailed ones. Some artists didn't even want to do sketches at all at a convention, which I can somehow understand. But I agree with you that in the end, it really depends on the artist in question. I'm not saying that it's good or bad and I can understand that some people enjoy this new practise. I would just like to know in advance, which I think, is a fair enough question.

I've never heard of a comic creator refusing to sign his own work (with the exception of some very rare cases, but that had more to do with problems between the creator and the publisher of his work). In my experience, creators often like the fact that you bring some of their older material, as it brings back some memories.

indeed
I brought a Tenth trading card to Tony Daniel and he did not even know those existed!! Go figure his amazement about that chromium card on his desk!!
IN regards to the prices of sketches
The past couple of years more and more artists have seen sketches being sold online for loads of money and that hurts them both emotionally as well as financially. They also see "fans" with 20 prints of one comic, coming in for a signing...same feelings!
I love a signature and a sketch but I ALWAYS bring along my sketchbook and NEVER do I have more then 3 comics to sign!!! And I ALWAYS let the artists personalize ("to boomvavavoom") signed comics and sketches!!
That personalizing makes the artists in return feel more sure that the sketches/comics will not end up at Ebay, but to REAL fans!
So I kinda hate the buzzards who come in with 50 comics for someone to sign...I hate those people for a lot of reasons I already mentionned but ALSO because of the fact that 50 signed comics cost a lot of time if only for ONE person, whose only goal is to make MONEY with it!!
Hate them!!
