Hello there, Since I went to FACTS for a few times I actually began to like the anime stuff. So my question to you all is, what anime stuff (espescially movies) could you advise me as a anime newbie. I saw Ghost In The Shell (which I really liked) and the serie Tenchie (or something like that), which was played on tv (vt4) for a while a few months ago. If you can give me some advice, could you plz tell me what you like so much about it. Tnx in advance.

hmmm, depends on what kind of genre you like. if you like the horror-genre i suggest you Hellsing, pet shop of horrors, etc (those where the first in my mind). for action, Cowboy bebop, Trigun, Kenshin (not Tenchie ) and for the little sexual perverted guys, love hina, chobits. I suggest you to also read the manga's as wel, they're often different from the anime like for example Kenshin. And if you watched the movie battle royale, go buy the manga's, There is much more depth in the characters (and more blood and gore) then in the movie. really recommended

It's not an easy question to answer, because just because of the sheer number of titles out there, 80 % of titles is unknown material even among hardened anime fans. It is important to remember that anime has already a 50 year history behind it (and that's not even counting some of the earlier short films, which date back to before WW II), yet anime fandom here in the West really only started up in the past decade. So many fans out there are only familiar with fairly recent, popular titles (often the only ones available) and the relative "quality" of a title is often dictated by personal taste instead of by some established "canon".
There are some titles which, from an objective point of view, could be considered "essential" because of the influence they exerted on the development of the medium. These titles include: The Legend Of The White Snake, Astroboy, The Jungle Emperor, Heidi The Girl Of The Alps,Space Cruiser Yamato, Nausicaa Of The Valley Of Wind, Urusei Yatsura, Patlabor, Akira, Neon Genesis Evangelion and many, many others.
There are some really good guide books out there on the history and important titles of anime, amongst others those by Prof. Susan Napier and by Helen McCarthy (I believe McCarthy and Jonathan Clements even wrote a beginner's guide to anime). They may be helpful in informing you about existing titles, genres and media.

If you like fantasy, The best anime to watch is Loddoss (La guerre de lodoss). But you should only watch the original series. It's my favourite.

I'm a newbie too. I used to watch Club Dorothée when I was little and I was a huge fan of Goldorak, Albator & La Bataille des Planètes (GatchamanII). Recently I saw Noir and Wolf's Rain and I became an anime fan again This year, tomorrow, will be the first time I visit F.A.C.T.S and I'm very excited!

it's kind of hard to say what anime you have to view for a beginner, but you better start with stuff that's easy to get, like the "dragon ball" series, "naruto" and "cowboy bebop". ofcorse, that's just a tiny speck of what anime is out there, so you better start looking around!

And personally, I find the drawing of the Saint Seiya manga terrible, but that's just me.

every person has an other taste, go visit some websites that have a big database of anime like www.animenewsnetwork.com/index.php or imdb.com but I guess you can't go really wrong with the anime's recommended here (in my own opinion I think that Elfen Lied is not bad but a bit overhyped ) my likes for the moment: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
