I went the 2nd November towards Lille Comic Festival. And it was BAD. Imagine the smallest room of FACTS was BIGGER then the convention in Lille. Shops were just bad and there was no structure in the shops/Artists. No logical way of getting somewhere and it was divided into 2 separate rooms, if you want to go from one room to another, you had to go outside and walk on the street to the other side. The list of artists was the only good thing. Adi Granov, Charlie Adlard, Barry Kitson, ... they had a MASS of artists. Bad thing was, a sketch was free. Ok now you think, thats great. Yeah true but i had to wait for 3 hours in a Cue to get 2 sketches from Charlie Adlard. (yeah BoomBoom am posting them later) There were people in the line with the First trade of Walking Dead, to get a sketch of Charlie. A small note, the first trade had a different artist (Tony Moore) and there were only 3 pages of Charlie Adlard in that book. Adi Granov wasn't happy with the organisation of the Convention and left on Sunday. (check his Facebook for more info) Maybe FACTS can try to bring him to Belgium next year. He is upcoming STEAMING talent. With his Iron Man books he defined IRONMAN. This is how the Movie poster was based on Art from Adi I had Vol 2 and Vol 3 of The Walking Dead Hardcovers with me, so each Hardcover has a Sketch in it from Charlie Adlard. He Zombie-fied me And just a Zombie out of the grave

Adi Granov wasn't happy with the organisation of the Convention and left on Sunday. (check his Facebook for more info) can you post what he said here? I can not see Facebook-entries without joining I also went and was caught with the same feelings you had. The artists were plenty and friendly but the rest...I will not even make mention of it. I did get some way cool sketches www.comicartfans.com/GalleryDetail.asp?GCat=8297did not get an Adlard sketch (too long of a line!!) but did get a signature!

I was reading forum.superpouvoir.com/showthread.php?t=8646&page=25&pp=10 and it occurred to me that at least the intentions of the organisation are good. They do love the artists and the community. I also think they noticed the critiques and will act upon it. Personally I hope they can overcome all the difficulties they encountered this year and make amends for a cool 2009!!

and I thought talking about other cons was forbidden over here. Dear Malkavian, Everything can't be perfect every time. By the way, Phil Winslade have done some very nice sketches (no free), you should have seen them. Doug Braithwaite had some very nice sketches for sell. Some guests hadn't so much people queueing, Khoi Pham were always "available", he has done more than 100 sketches during the festival for sure. Frazing Irving was "available" too as well as Niko Henrichon, Simon Bisley and Glenn Fabry. For Charlie Adlard mabye you should have been this year at Angoûlème, there was quite less people for him there than in Lille. You known in Lille he wasn't the only guest for sketches... Saying paid sketches are the best thing...I don't think so, that not our way in France. We're in France not in the USA. If and only if you want to pay for something more elaborated, then, ask they won't say no. Have you ever seen Barry Kitson's sketches ? They're free and they're worth 100 $.

Cool. Thx Preacher for your positive reply on your show. You're welcomed !! BTW I've been fan of the FACTS since 1998 (George Perez's year at the festival) and have been there ever since. And have "promoted" the show over some French forums by talking about it. Every year this show have been one of the best around and I expect this year to be an excellent one.

Dear Malkavian, this is your opinion and your own only and I respect it, ....... I want to react on this , its been a while that i posted it. And its been a while that looked at this thread. Let see, Que lines for the artists where in the Mainhall all infront of the few comic shops there where. So i had to Push people away (that where just standing in line) to get towards the Shops. Why do i make a comment about this? Because i've seen good systems on other Conventions. For example FACTS, they have a room specially for Artists. A bit more like your Second room (where Charlie was sitting) but then for ALL your artists. For a comic convention there weren't alot of shops. You can't argue with that, but the few shops that where in Lille didn't provide me with alot of comics. Again in de 2nd room i had a blast going thru the boxes. (Those guys came from the Netherlands i believe) I discovered 10 issues out of 12 of Secret War. That waiting in a Que is part of getting a sketch, but when i see people getting a Sketch from Charlie in the First Volume of Walking Dead, that's been drawn by Tony Moore. So they where the real fans, you could tell. I think, ask them to pay 5-10 euro for a Sketch and the Que-line is GONE. I wish i had the time to go for sketches from all those artists, but i choose the one i wanted the most and after that one my time was up, because i had a 2-2,5 hour ride home. The Artist Barry Kitson, was one of the next inline i wanted to see. I even brought my EMPIRE comics with me to sign. Maybe i am spoiled (its FACTS his fault) and i expected way too much. But there were way too many points that could improve.

malkavian.
I have edited part of yours and Preachers comments. Just to try and keep it open and friendly.
To me it seems like Preacher has been aware of the problems at his show and he wants to make it better and seeing him reply here, is something I like to approach as a positive gesture.
I feel much the same way as you do, Malki. But I think we should turn a new leaf here and I am very intrested in how Preacher is going to attempt to make his show better, instead of more dissing.

But i didn't like the idea he portraited me like Abraham Simpson, that i just rant for fun. So i just wanted to clear my point, but i understand And the statement of being spoiled i really ment that. The Artists are really wel organized, there are que lines but its very clear for who and you don't interfere with the shops. Hope this continues in FLEXPO

Hi, just wanted to respond to the title of this topic ..I have been to a lot of conventions and i must say Lille is one of the best artists conventions in west europe! Great artist list and very relaxing. ..of course some things did not went the way they should go, but it is a small convention, a lot of artists and it has only been held twice. If you go to conventions to talk to artists and obtain a cool sketch or commission Lille is defenitely the place to be! ..although I must say that the list of artists at Facts this year is also overwhelming!!!
