because, frankly, ten years of any series is enough. You can't help but get a feeling of repetition after so many years. The stories have been told.
It's sad, but true.

no, it cannot. I have seen nearly every episode, and the stories may vary, but are not different enough any more. It was the same with Star Trek. New race, same story.

Then again, aren't they the longest running Sci-Fi series next to Dr. Who?

No, I wasn't comparing the series themselves. I love Stargate. But, as with any longer running series, you can't stay original after o many episodes. Dr Who has longer life, but that's because they changed doctors. That means that you get new input from a new character. That way, it doesn't matter if the situations are similar, because the reaction will be different. And because the series revolves around one person, renewing that person renews the series.
I think that taking the original SG-1 team out has a big drawback, because you take out the main stars. After so long, people are attached to the characters. Even recurring guests are loved by all. Taking a main-cast member and "downgrading" them to guest is not something everyone agrees with.
On the other hand, with the cast changes, you do get a new perspective on things. So, like dr Who (again, NOT comparing, just taking an example from somewhere else), that would mean more opportunities for the writers. In my opinion, they didn't take full advantage of the changes. The series has depended for a big part on Jack O'Neil, and I'm sorry, but Ben Browder doesn't have the same charisma for me.
I didn't mean to offend you in any way, stargater555. I'm just giving my opinion. I will miss Stargate, as I miss Star Trek (well, I miss GOOD episodes of Trek, a lot of the later ones weren't good in my eyes). But this will give the creative team more focus on Atlantis. They have the opportunity to go on there. That will hopefully give us Stargate for many years to come.

I'm all for letting it go. It had a wonderful 10 year run and recently, with the new season, I was enoying the episodes again. I love the new characters Cameron and Vala, they rock, especially Vala. I don't miss O'Neill that much, and I could care less if any of the other characters would (finally) meet his untimely demise.
But I say, let it go with grace. Let's focus on Atlantis next and see how far we can go with that spin-off. Hopefully a long way!

And why should Atlantis run less longer? I'm a Stargate-fan from the beginning and I'm not complaining. I like Atlantis as I like SG1. It's great! Look at CSI and Star trek: the spin-offs (CSI:Miami and ST:TNG) had more succes than the originals.

Atlantis only was succesful thanks to SG1 SG1 is gone and there's nothing you can do about it . All good things come to an end ... Be glad the series ran for as long as it did . Try to enjoy Atlantis and if you're really in need for an SG1 fix just re-watch the episodes on DVD ...

ok, this is why I stopped replying. You are totally not reading what we are saying, just clinging to your own statements.
Well, I hope you enjoy the SG-1 DVD's, I'm going to watch the new SGA episodes.

... i am just frustrated that scifi drops SG1 for a few bad ratings Many good shows have been canceled in the past , due to poor ratings in the US ... All those executives think about one thing and that's making $ and if it doesn't , they just toss it aside . There's also too much competition from other channels ... It's a constant ratings war and we now can add SG1 as one of the many victims ... sad , but that's the way it is ... Life goes on ...

As will undoubtedly happen. Again, I love the shows, but nothing lasts forever, especially not tv-shows!

lol. Well, that was my original point yes. We all have our favorite shows, and we all know they will end some day (except Days of Our Lives, which seems to go on forever). So, we get the DVD's and watch the reruns, and a new show comes along that we like, and it all happens all over again! *sings* "it's the circle of life" Hang on, the Lion King wasn't about tv shows, was it?

There's talk of TV-movies. But quite honestly I'd rather like to see a mini-series to end it. I'm not such a big fan of TV-movies (at least not the ones Sci-Fi produces).
