I'm very much in favor of everyone using English to be honest. I hate how I have a hard time understanding some things at German con boards and that's why I don't spend much time there. Even though I do concur with that, at the moment it's the message board provider (the free Proboards) which *forces* us to use English, or the FACTS message boards run the risk of getting kicked off the server for violating Proboards' Terms of Service. It also means Proboards has a certain degree of control and scrutiny over what we are writing here (and also, why accidental non-English messages consistently get deleted), and that's also partly because Proboards wants information for their advertisers. And that is the part I seriously disagree with: A third party meddling with our forum and having the right to shut it down at will. Remember the insane word censorship on the message boards here? We have enough technical expertise and resources (e.g. server space) to arrange a forum installation ourselves, and keep control over the content with the FACTS team.

Now that would be a good idea, as I'm kind of annoyed with the censorship. I can understand why the Proboards would have everyone talk in English though (hell, we could plan a terrorist attack in Dutch and they wouldn't know )

(hell, we could plan a terrorist attack in Dutch and they wouldn't know ) How about: It's not their responsibility and therefore not their concern what we, as forum users on our own community should be saying? I doubt there is anyone on Proboards who would ever stumble upon one of their message boards and intelligently reads them. The only reason they want us to use English is so their scripts can collect sensible keywords for advertising -- and hence Proboards makes more money.

I really like the idea. but honestly, I don't think this will attract many people as most people are just waiting in the line all the time to get sketches. Even at the lunch break of the artists, people continue to stand in line.

Even at the lunch break of the artists, people continue to stand in line. offcourse you continue to stand in line otherwise you lose your spot in the queue and can start all over again when the artist comes back not that I actually do that, I'm one of those that isn't included in the "most people" category...I prefer not spending my time in a queue but to look around and participate in things if there are things to participate in and i'm sure there's an audience for everything... art, swordfighting, martial arts, how do you make x, leatherworking, music, tips and tricks for cosplay outfits/props/wigstyling, ... all those things have something to do with what FACTS stands for so I don't think ppl would just walk past (at least not solely to run to the actor/artist's queue!) ^_^ edit: just read the program and it seems there are workshops that do sound interesting. Just one note: grime is another english word for dirt (vuil), it doesn't have anything to do with applying makeup ^-^

There's a simple solution for it, called 'virtual queueing', much like the FastPASS system they use in Disneyland Paris. The idea is: If you want to get an autograph or a sketch, you order it at the artist's PA, and you will be assigned a number. So there is no need to wait forever for the artist to finish everyone else's sketches, just the sketches of a few numbers in front of you. With the numbers, you have a time slot where you can expect your autograph/photo/sketch. For example, a call-out with 'numbers 200-250 can get in line at 13:00'. In the meantime (the time numbers 0-200 would be queueing) you can do something else. Of course these numbers do not have to be linked to your FACTS ticket number, and having a time slot for late deciders on a first come, first serve basis is perfectly possible.

I think it's a good idea to sell tickets at the Free Recordshop, but why aren't they selling any cos'play tickets? And I think the price should be at least the same, or even cheaper. Tickets for the Antwerp Convention were cheaper when you bought them before the event, same goes for the WOH. Just saying

yeah I went there so I wouldn't have to use the website and I wouldn't have to pay extra (as I'm coughing up tickets for 6 of my friends) and now i'm the only one without a ticket as they didn't sell cosplay

They don't sell cosplay tickets because there is no way you can prove that you will be going as a cosplayer to FACTS.

It was my first F.A.C.T.S this year. I wasn't dissapointed, but there are few things that could be beter/ be improved:
-Make it less hot inside (i don't know why they make it so hot at every convetion i go...) -Anime and manga shops where few and far between. There where a lot of merchandise shops, but not so many manga/anime shops. (Maybe ask some more local dealers...) -The 3 halls are not enough. At one point, I could barely move, so I was stuck in a hall for a long time (I don't know if there are more halls in Flanders Expo, but if there are, use them next year.)
I will probably be back next year, but if you improve on these 3 things, I will enjoy F.A.C.T.S a lot more.

Second, i think the dealers are good balanced. Third, I suggest a fourth hall aswell!!! Same amount of dealers, but more space.

I would also like to see a 4th hall. It really was crowded out there. Well... that's what you get for having so much succes! Also, the speakers during the cosplaycomp were really loud. And I mean REALLY loud. I was looking around me in the crowd at times, and found that I was not the only one who flinched when some high-pitched anime voice pierced our eardrums.

They don't sell cosplay tickets because there is no way you can prove that you will be going as a cosplayer to FACTS. neither can you prove that to the website when u order them online. It says in the rules that entry will be denied if you cannot prove you're going to cosplay so it's easy enough to add this on the cosplaytickets they have at the shop and have the shopkeeper point this out just in case

Hi, I have one suggestion. I haven't got the time to read all 14 pages of this topic so maybe someone suggested the same, but here it is: I think 2011 has been the third time F.A.C.T.S. has been held at the expo. Which is great cause there's probably more room available. However, is there a way to keep the temperature cooler in the expo building? I'm afraid it's probably too much asked, but to be honest, sometimes it feels like "Hells Kitchen" in there!!! - So, I don't know; giant futuristic fans on the ceiling or something like that? But you know what? It would probably already be very helpful if everyone should take a shower before coming to the event. Cause sometimes it was plain dreadful . Some of you youngsters should bathe more than twice of three times a year!!! No, it's just the heat, if that would be possible to tackle, that would be great!! Otherwise it's a nearly perfect event!!! See you (or smell you?) next year folks!!!

the annoying thing is that in hall 2 and 3 with the merchandise it was bloody hot cuz of all the ppl crammed together. In hall 1 with the games however it was very nice for me as I was only wearing a short dress so the temperature is very difficult to balance as some are wearing more clothes then others. I think a very easy (but costly) way to solve this is...get an extra hall and spread out the vendors ^_^

F.A.C.T.S. was as most years fantastic again. I got pretty much no complaint whatsoever, the only thing I'm gonna complain about again is the Q&A. It was an improvement over last years, but not by much. There were still too few seats and too much background noise. I often had a difficult time understanding the guest. Also, why not use a stage? That would make it easier for everyone to see the guest. I still think a separate room would be the best solution, but of course I'm not even sure if this is possible

For next year: Hiring another room would be nice, it's getting REALLY crowdy in between the stands sometimes... Also: 6 euro's for a microscopic amount of pasta? Or 4 for a pizza baguette that hasn't even been baked? I know food is expensive at these kinds of events, but there is a limit, and I think FACTS just went over it... And what happened to the Jawa Juice and JarJar Burgers? Also: a higher stage for the cosplay competition? It's really hard to see anything at all if you don't reserve a spot half an hour before it starts. And PLEASE lower the volume You could hear everything perfectly from across the entire room, standing near the stage was an assault on your eardrums. Just my 2 cents.

You reaaly make it difficult to us As of the food. Everthing relating the catering is out of our control as catering is done by Flanders Expo. In the ICC we had control over the food hence the FACTS-menu.

So, it's up to you to tell your favorite Manga/Anime shop if they can stand at FACTS. - Flanders Expo has many halls ;D

OK, here's one:
I like the idea of 'no photography' during an actor's Q&A, however, it's very difficult to enforce.
On other conventions, they have a strict rule not to allow filming, but photography is no problem. Photographing with flash is only allowed during the first 2 minutes of a panel.
I know the actors want to interact with people, not cameras, but cameras flashing in your face during an entire Q&A is even more annoying, yet easier to fight.
Also, make sure everyone knows the rules of a Q&A (that includes the non-Dutch speaking people!) beforehand.

What was the problem with the non-Dutch speaking people then?
(I was not present at any of the Q&As. ever. So I really do not know what goes on at the FACTS Q&As)

What was the problem with the non-Dutch speaking people then? The MC was only announcing the guests (and the important rules) in Dutch. One time, I had the time to translate it in English, but for the rest, most of the people who were speaking French, German or English had no clue about the no-photography rule. I am in favor of having English as a base language for all important messages (that includes presentation) at an international convention like FACTS anyway. We've overcome the language barrier on the message boards, so how hard could it be to do it at the Expo?

Very, very difficult, I am afraid. There are too many visitors that really do not speak English. I notice it in the queue for the photoshoots too. At times I would start explaining something in English, a group of 10 people would remain eye contact, only to announce at the end of what I had said (often a minute later) that they did not speak English. It is very frustrating. I do not mind translating anything, but it would be so much easier if people would just write the language they speak on their forehead at FACTS. XD
On the other hand, I often found myself speaking English with other Flemish people with whom I could have spoken Dutch just as well. But atleast I did not lose time translating it a second time for them.
