I don't know about driving to the Twieoo all the way in Gent just for a party there where my eyes will hurt from the smoke and I won't be able to understand what people are saying.

Why Twieoo?

Why Twieoo?

I wasn't really fond of the Twieoo as the current FACTS party location, to be honest. It was dead center in the busiest night-time street of Gent, and I can understand some geeks wouldn't dare venture there.

Most cons I go to, the Saturday night party is held *at* the convention venue. I'm a bit curious as to why FACTS doesn't do this, is it because the ICC has to close at 6pm or because of the lack of room/facilities?

And for the record: I don't go out much since I hate smoking as well. Luckily smoking is illegal in bars in NL today, but that results in empty bars or everyone hanging out on the street most of the time...

Yes, we don't do it at the ICC due to practical encumbrances, such as lack of space and security.

Twieoo actually is a good location since it is easy to find and located at a 2 minutes walking distance from the icc. The DJ is spiffing as well. If I would hold the party somewhere esle (less central location), I bet half the people would not find it.

If you called saturday night busy, then don't venture into the Overpoort at normal weekdays, when all my fellow-students who aren't from Ghent are there as well.
Or perhaps it was just fuller than otherwise because their was a soccer-game or something.
But all over all, people (nerds, whatever) shouldn't be afraid to go there at all, the people have seen way worse. (very much now, since it's the baptising period with the fraternities, which serves for good fun indeed)

And well, can't have everything, the smokers need their smoke outside, I suppose, be glad they don't do it inside (like some still do, just ignoring the rules), you can always go a bit further down the street to have a more fresher breath.

And about the Twieoo, I think it's a fine place to go out (I've had a cantus there once, and I approved of it), it's not the Vooruit (which would be costing more than one facts-staffmember to pay the rent) but there is a lot worse. If you really want somewhere else, I can recommend the Tequila, but don't know if everyone would be able to get in, as I don't know how many people there were at the party.

Indeed the TWIEOO was not that far off from FACTS, would anyone be interested to go to other side of town (sort of speaking to go to an after party

I can't imagine us having a party at the ICC, with all those VERY EXPENSIVE goodies just laying there for the grasp, i believe most standholders won't sleep assured (at all )

And i must say that Gent has stolen my hart.
There are so many places to get a very good time.

About the party, why not have it on several places, meaning during the Gentse feesten

People from al over come to Gent to celebrate, so you don't have to specially drive for one night occasion only.
Besides most of the festivals are outside so NO smoking trouble here,except if the party itself is SMOKIN' (quotes the Mask )

Hmmm.... I have to admit Hades, that sounds like a nice plan indeed, having a 'party' during the Gentse Feesten.
And about the Crystal night, dunno what that is, but I was talking about fraternity baptisings/initiations.

*grin**grin**grin*Next week I'll be having fun baptizing a few feuten into schachten myself*grin*
Although the week after that I'll be going through the same, but way smaller hell for another fraternity I'm joining now (Bacchus Bowling Frat)

True, security is probably a big issue, and I'm not sure if FACTS has the budget to hire people to do that. (OK, they can ask the guys in SG gear to watch outside and tell everyone to get lost at gunpoint!)

The location close to the ICC is a plus for the Twieoo. But someone's going to teach the DJ to throw his self-respect out the window for one evening, play geek tracks and not be to over-enthousiastic with the light show! (I gave the man a list with all of the tracks mentioned in another thread, he seemed to have none of them). Granted, his mix was pretty tight though.

Well, try to ask the guys from Twieoo if you can put up your own DJ.
Have someone learn to use VirtualDJ and how to make nice slides into other songs and you're off.
And who needs a lightshow.

actually for the release of Reiki The Movie (the movie we were promoting at the FACTS, we will be doing a release party pretty soon.

and I just thought: why not welcome cosplayers since the actors will be in costume!

(and yes, it will be in ghent, since I live in ghent!)

I'm pretty curious as to how the FACTS gods are going to solve this puzzle now that the event is held at the Flanders Expo. Put bluntly, I'm not going to walk all over to the Twieoo from the Expo at the dead of night, and I'll probably be too drunk from a good Belgian beer to make it back...

On the other hand, if we're partying at the Expo, just give me a ring. DJ and equipment on standby.
