Ten years ago, this forum got started up on October 7th. HAPPY BIRTHDAY FACTS-FORUM And a big thx to all the 1637 forummers who joined I can make one forummer happy. I still have the A0 sized poster of Lauren Cohan, who sadly cancelled the day she should have been @ FACTS. Who wants it? And why? This will probably also be the last birthday of the FACTS-forum and this due to the low activity which no one can deny. The fate of it will be decided after this edition. Attachments:

I would love it! Why? Because Lauren Cohan is awesome. I think she's a great actress (I actually saw Death Race 2 not so long ago, she's great in Vampire Diaries, Chuck and Supernatural as well) and portrays one of the few characters I actually care about in the Walking Dead. I'm hoping she'll be announced for a future edition of F.A.C.T.S.
I'm going to miss the forum if the decision is a negative one, but I'll understand it. It'll be the chaotic, unorderly Facebook then.

I would love to have it. Just like everybody that will post in this topic. Why? A great actrice that I loved in many movies/series. Like mentioned above, Vampire Diaries, Walking Dead,... What more can I say than PICK ME, PICK ME. But this also means that you guys will need another poster when she comes to FACTS one day. You are planning of getting her. And the forum closing will be a sad day indeed. There is no order on facebook. But yes, the forum isn't what is was like a couple years back. But then I need some new facebook friends to keep in touch and discuss topics with the main members from the forum. I'm proud to have been here on this forum, it let me know some great people. (Although I'm not a talker in real life as some have expierenced )

I was planning to give this poster away to the forummer who posted in this topic and had the most posts made in the last 10 years and since you as a FACTS-visitor have the most posts anyway , the WINNER is you. Pick it up at the artists alley as I'm not planning to bring it back home. The poster has 2012 on it, so it cannot be reused.

I'll be there to pick it up along with the Django comic and poster. And yes, I was quite active on the forum from the moment I made an account 7 years ago. Second with the most posts, only Boom precedes me. Nice

I guess there are a few reasons why the forum is not attracting more active members.
One reason might be the lack of interesting news in between conventions. I've seen other forums address this by adding reviews of movies, collectibles, stuff like that. Just to spice it up during those months when there's little news about the con itself.
Another reason is the decision to just allow posts in English. We are pretty fluent in English, but we tend to forget that most people in Belgium have a hard time expressing themselves in what is still a foreign language. Most Belgians can handle simple conversation in English, but writing an elaborate opinion about a certain subject will baffle a lot of them. People who would love to join in, but can't. I know that pro-Boards says "English only", but that is a decision that was made in the past by FACTS, one I never agreed with, even when I was still running the show. I know it's hard to construct one uniform forum where everybody understands everybody, and English seems to be the obvious choice, but it chases away a large section of your target audience. A three-section forum (Dutch, French and English) might get more fans on board to participate and tells us their opinions.
FACTS has a huge following, it's without a doubt one of the best and biggest conventions in the world (don't be modest), so I still feel that a kick-ass forum is quite possible. Don't give up hope!

Now there's a start. This will bring them back. Don't do it on FB but bring it over here. I also understand mr facts. 4 people on a regular day visit here... i would stopped it already. Cos we only count the members not the active members. This part of facts needs new blood suggestion: grievous444??? He sounds like the man with a plan and is 'active' at this part of the channel... Otherwise just chop of it's head, this can't be the topic every year, should i stay or should i go

I wouldn't mind helping out, writing reviews of movies and collectibles (in Dutch or English), it's a fun way of pulling people in, keeping them interested. A forum needs a daily life, otherwise people stay away. How about a weekly "what is new" section? That could work.
To give you an idea: I post on a American forum, where I average 1500 posts per year. And that forum is basically what FACTS is all about: movies, toys, DVDs,...
But I will admit, it's extra work. Maybe Mr.FACTS could hire an assistant? Every Doctor Frankenstein needs an Ygor....

I don't know, I've noticed it happening to other conventions too. One closed down its forum after renewing the website and another one is as quiet as the F.A.C.T.S. one. But just like fartman I'm very willing to lend an extra hand to the F.A.C.T.S. gods

Ah I remember posting on this forum when I still lived at my parent's house! (That's before I became a volunteer... Which is now... I always seem to forget... I dunno... five years ago? Darnit.)
If it has to go, I completely understand though. But I must say that I met many great people through the forum, and when working at the photoboot, I see some people look at me like: "Why does she know so many people on this convention by name?" - the forum definitely has something to do with that! I made acquaintances here which I never would make over Facebook. Not to mention the fact that it's a bit too busy there to really get to know one person... And say that I have a question about FACTS, then I can't post it there in the current format of the FACTS page, unless they would decide to make it a group?

Because of the forum many of us have indeed know each other better. Always suprise me that certain people recognize me and even know my real name. So I will try post regular the entire year. Always nice to hear people's opinions of new episodes of series, new movies, collectibles, comics, games, ...
And the best way to start is to write a (little) review of this years FACTS.

The forum becomes active in the months leading up to FACTS, stays active about a month (at best) after FACTS and then dies down to near death to re-awake 4 months before (or when you start announcing guests)... that's about 5 months a year... which leaves you with 7 months of silence. Approximately...
More activity does mean a wider spectrum of subjects... but didn't we have a general forum like that, which disappeared due to inactivity?
Heck, all the NURDZ.... *hugs them all* ... this is the place where the movement started (and ended)!

Maybe an attempt to send more people to the forum? Refer more people on facebook to the forum (for guest suggestions for example).

Making a guest annoucement on the forum and only reveal him 2 days later on facebook would make a lot of people choosing to check the forum on a regualr base than checking the facebook page.

Yes, but it would probably also get comments like "Why aren't you guys announcing this on Facebook?" or "I heard that this guest is coming, why aren't you announcing this on facebook yet? Is it a hoax?" etc. I dunno... I notice many forums dying, and few forums starting up... There is so much social media (Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter...) that wasn't there in the early days of most forums.

Thx for the suggestion. 2 days? Knowing that the FB-page has already more than 20.000 likes and the forum a mere dozen of regulars, I'm sure you can figure out which of the two will be chosen
