Wil there be a costume contest on Facts? If yes, on what day?

There usually is a cosplay contest on both days, with several categories: Star Wars, anime and usually a "mixed" category. Both contests are in the afternoon. Check out the cosplay topics on this forum

So, it was just a Cosplay Costume contest...nothing more... No freakin wonder we didn't do our act huh? Cosplay compos on the Dutch cons usually mean acting, singing, dancing, being random and doing something more then just walking around and showing off...geh.
This is one of the reasons why I won't be attending this con again.

unless of course this is going to get improved! You could learn from the dutchies, ya know!!! Act are what I live for, and ten seconds before we were up, we had to throw away our script, and had to come up with some poses. Later on I thought about ninja dashing up the stage, but in those ten seconds all we thought about was... OMG OMG!!!What must I do! ehmmm. .. *pose*
Pity, it was a real shame, 'cuase I had so much fun till then! (Afterwards I was having fun again, but...) However there was an actionfigure which made it okay for me!

Problem with acting on the stage is that takes a while, and the costume contest on Saturday already dragged on way too long, not to mention when everyone would act, sing or dance for a few minutes.
FACTS has hundreds of cosplayers every day. For a costume contest, time is a luxury we don't have.

why don't you try to make a contest like in France?? I doesn't have to be in the same room as everything else I think Nekomusume wrote a topic about it!
You just can't deny the fact that more and more people are coming for the cosplay! So I think you'll have to change the way it is organized!
It's the third time I come to facts, I have fun but nothing really improved concerning cosplay and that's sooooo sad!!!
PS: sorry for my english, I know it sucks

Sunday already was a huge improvement over Saturday. I haven't been to cosplay contests or conventions in France, so I have no clue as to what you mean. Can you elaborate or guide me to the topic you mentioned?

ok so this is the topic factscon.proboards20.com/index.cgi?board=suggestions&action=display&thread=1086865383So in France, the cosplay isn't in the same room. It's in another room - auditorium like. People who doesn't want to have anything to do with cosplay don't go there! Usually it begins early, because of the number of participant. If Facts has this room especially for cosplay contest, there won't be any time limit. And there are much more categories! It's already nice to separate Stars wars from anime but there should be other subcategories: individual females, individual males and group. I was once jury in France and believe me! It's nearly impossible to be fair if you have to judge everything at the same time >-< also it would be much more easier for the jury to have reference pictures! They're not supposed to know each character of each series or film. With a reference picture they can compare if the costume's good or not! Theres's a meeting point some time before the show to see if no-ones missing!! Some people subscribe to the contest but never shows! It's necessary to do that to avoid some blank during the show. Dressing room is imperative >-< I had to change in the toilets and it's really not appropriate!!!!! And I had to carry my stuff all around the conv!! It's not really easy to come already dressed from brussel. Especially if you're coming by train you know!!!!! Hum I guess that's all for the moment! ^-^ Don't worry! I love facts and I'll come next year! THis year was already a lot better that last year (podium for example) But if some things change! This would be juuuuust perfect ^-^

Hey aideen,
I can follow what you're saying. You could organize a professional cosplay contest, completely apart from all the activity. But it is my Personal opinion that having this contest in the activities area (FACTS) is great. It is all about the fun I think and I love to watch the wonderful costumes that are made and the proud owners showing off!! But I don't think I would go visit the auditorium, especially to go see the contest if it were apart... I think a lot of people are attracted to cosplay because of what they've seen on ons such as FACTS...
don't you?

Fartor makes an excellent point here. The only people attending the cosplay contest if it were in another room would be other cosplayers and their friends or relatives or people who come for the cosplay. It's the same with the Q&A sessions: they take place in another room, so only people who really want to talk to the actors will go. Personnally I like the podium the way it is, with the shows and things, it's cosier. Besides, cosplay for me is about having fun and showing off your costume, not about stressing over where you can change and competing against each other (And this year I didn't even have time to enter the contest )

well what I mean is that the contest is in a separate room! It doesn't mean that cosplayers won't walk between the stand and stuff like this!It is still IN Facts!! not in another place! I always will! We're just talking about the contest!!! with a stage and seats for people watching!!!
It's not very different than a projection or something. and Fartor, cosplay will never be professional!! It would still be fun!!!!Even in France there's no such think as professional cosplay! ^-^ But .... even if it's for fun, it doesn't mean that we don't have to do something neat and cool!!!
And I don't really agree with the facts that only cosplayers, friends and relative will go watch the show!!! I think you'd be surprise!!!! Really!!!
