Anime exhibition in the Caermers Convention in Ghent With its Anime! High Art – Pop Culture in the Caermers Convent of Ghent, the Ghent Film Festival, in partnership with the Province East Flanders, takes a great plunge into the world of Japanese animation films. Hundreds of original drawings, 3D objects and film fragments provide a panoramic view of the different Anime sub-genres of internationally renowned films such as Akira and Princess Mononoke to Tezuka Osamu’s more classic Astroboy and computer games such as Final Fantasy and Pokémon. The exhibition runs from 9 October 2009 to 10 January 2010 and fits neatly into the main theme of the Festival this year, which is Asia. And that's not all.
Japanese animation film fans are in for a real treat at the 36th edition of the Ghent Film Festival (6-17 October), with its film retrospective on Studio Ghibli, Japan’s premiere animation studio founded by directors Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. The retrospective reflects the festival’s Asia theme and ties in with the anime exhibition held at The Carmelite Friary – Provincial Centre of Art and Culture.
Don't dare to miss this happening.

Been there as well, fraiday before F.A.C.T.S.
Nice exhibition, lots of interesting art and animation cels.
The layout was nice, the "guided path" was fun. The rooms were large and very well lit. Nothing to complain about.
Two major quips:
1) Most of the merchandise on display (figure-wise) have beeen really cheap items, not even close to the level of quality which could have been displayed. I seemed to noticed lots of Gashapon and "Trading-Figure" or "Trading-Kit"-style figures. Disenchanting.
2) Although there's been mention of GUNDAM and other mecha - there was simply NO mention of the classic Super Robot Shows. Meaning: NO Getter, Mazinger, Arbegas, Grendizer, Gaiking, Jeeg, Godmars... well, the list is endless, yet none was shown. What MAY have to with the the exhibition being done by a german museum and when the classic Giant Robots first emerged the shows were deemed to violent for children's TV.
But that's just my opinion. As I said, a very much enjoyable exhibition. If you didn't go, you really missed something.
