Just found out that it will be re-released in the Fall of 2010!!! And since I never saw the 3D but loved the 2D I am sooo going to go to this one!! www.bleedingcool.com/2010/07/08/re-release-dates-for-extended-avatar-revealed-more-than-eight-minutes-longer/Twentieth Century Fox and James Cameron today announced that AVATAR: SPECIAL EDITION will be released in theaters August 27, in a limited engagement and exclusively in Digital 3D and IMAX 3D.
This version of Cameron’s history-making and groundbreaking epic will include more than eight minutes of new footage. Since – and largely as of result of — AVATAR’s release last December, the number of available digital 3D screens has exploded, and moviegoers who missed experiencing the film in 3D will now have that opportunity.
Commented James Cameron: “Audiences repeatedly told me they wanted more of Pandora, and wished they could have stayed there longer. So we’re making that possible. AVATAR: SPECIAL EDITION will be exclusively in 3D, and will have eight minutes of never before seen footage, including new creatures and action scenes. Whether you already love the movie, or you’ve never seen it, with this Special Edition, you’ll be seeing it like never before.”
Commented Fox Filmed Entertainment chairmen and CEOs, Jim Gianopulos and Tom Rothman: “AVATAR: SPECIAL EDITION is especially gratifying, because not only has AVATAR become one of the most beloved films in history, but after its initial theatrical release, we have been inundated with requests to re-release the film in theaters in 3D. Equally important, we’re thrilled that Jim Cameron is able to give audiences even more of what they loved about AVATAR.” not in the Netherlands (yet ) but in Belgium for sure since the list of countries and its re-releasedates are up here: www.avatarmovie.com/re-releasedates/BELGIUM 8 SEPTEMBER 2010 RUSSIA 26 AUGUST 2010 SPAIN 17 SEPTEMBER 2010 UK 27 AUGUST 2010 AUSTRALIA 26 AUGUST 2010 INDIA 27 AUGUST 2010 JAPAN 16 OCTOBER 2010 SOUTH KOREA 16 SEPTEMBER 2010 MEXICO 15 OCTOBER 2010 ARGENTINA 16 SEPTEMBER 2010

looking forward to it I'm hoping the special edition will have some making off's speaking of which, how about an Avatar guest? Probably unlikely since most of the cast are pretty popular. But Joel Moore, Wes Studi, CCH Pounder or Laz Alonso might be available?

Want to know the real reason behind this re-release.... Because Jimmy felt like he could have made more money if Alice in Wonderland (I believe) had been released later. That's why...
This has been known since April by the way...

This has been known since April by the way... well, let's just hope he's spending the money on some of his next projects ;D same reason as to why he's re-releasing Titanic in theaters in 3D next year.

I hate to say it (as a Titanic-geek even) but I don't want him to do that.
It's based on true facts and doesn't require 3D to envision what happened on that ship in 1912. What's next Shindler's List in 3D too?

What's next Shindler's List in 3D too? I agree with you there, but hey if it makes money they'll continue doing this. And it seems that there will be only more and more movies that'll come out in 3d. Highly unnecessairy for many of these films (+ that means you gotta pay even more in theaters)

Well here in my cinema, (Sint-niklaas) I've seen alot of people, who do this: they ask a ticket for the 3d movie, buy the glasses and when the movie's finished act as if they didn't have the 3d glasses and mingle in with the crowd. So whenever they go back to the 3D theatre, they say "we got our own glasses, bought them on ebay" they can't refuse you then. I know it's lying, but "renting" the glasses for 2-3 hours and it's 5€ for that, i wouldn't go to a 3d movie then.
MY FRIENDS ARE SO ILLEGAL XD

MY FRIENDS ARE SO ILLEGAL XD that's money well saved, at my theater in Gent you pay for the "3d experience", which doesn't only include the glasses but is (or at least I think it is) used to pay off the expensive equipment.

I hope they won't remake too many films (just because it can make money). Will I go and see the Avatar remake? Can't say.... loved it the first time and it's a fantastic movie, but for only 8 minutes extra? You'll pay extra to see it (due to the need of 3D glasses) and do those 8' add something to the story or not? We'll just have to wait (on the comments from others)

i dont care much for 3-d,its merely a new gimmick that isnt even that impressive at this point. and avatar is to me the most overrated movie ever.
ill admit that the cgi is stunning, but thats all the movie has going for itself. the story is your generic cowboy and indian script, its only been done dozens of times by far better movies.

I only went for the CG, because I totally love good and realistic CG like that (And like final fantasy which makes everything pretty) the story was nutsty de la nuts :'D The thing i also liked about the movie was the world pandora. And how everything worked together there, but the story about sully, oh man, if it was a movie without the stunning graphics and the new world, i wouldn't go see it.

Didn't get the chance to see it in 3D the first time, so I might go this time. And OMG more then EIGHT MINUTES EXTRA FOOTAGE! *huge sarcasme sign* When I saw it on TV I had an impression that it was a 2.5 hour long screensaver, but it's still on my re-watch list.

I saw the "extended" version and it's actually nothing special they added. Most off the new footage are landscapes. I hoped they' d use something more about the characters.

I haven't seen the second release of the 3D - AVATAR, but i just know they had sooooo much footages left, they could've done soooo much more with it, then showing mere landscapes
Maybe they'll use it in the 2nd and 3th AVATAR, who knows . . .

I have a feeling that it's just all about money. And it's not just JamesCameron who is going to do a re-release. George Lucas is planning to do the same with Star Wars (all 6 of them) and there is a rumour that the same is going to happen with POTC 1 to 3.
