On the ticket page there is a notice about photography: "Professional photo, sound and/or video appliances have to be cleared with the organisation first."
Does anybody know what is meant with professional these days? digital SLR cameras are very common, also are the lenses.
I would like to bring my Canon 40D with some lenses, will they let me in? ;D
Thanks!
Alex

I think they mean press photography, and video/audio. Last year a friend of mine interviewed me and she was from the university and was working on her interviewing class. She had a special pass and so did her crew. So I think, if you're using it for yourself it's okay, but if you are publishing it on sites for those kind of things (not deviantart or so, but the sites especially for photos and publishing) i think you'll have to ask.

I agree with LS, this probably means photography for *commercial* purposes. That means: If you want to take photos and make money out of them.
On other conventions, we've had photographers taking pictures of cosplayers (on a generic background), after which they wanted to sell the photos BACK to said cosplayer. Obviously, that's not really a polite thing to do and is something we might need to avoid.
Most events prohibit own video recordings because of copyright on any material shown at the event (e.g. a preview trailer or exclusive footage) or to prevent any 'inappropriate' comments from any of the guests/crew to get published.
To be on the safe side, a two-digit Canon *might* be considered professional photo equipment, especially when you carry the lenses in plain sight. Asking never hurts.

if you bring along your Canon 40D then that is no problem but when it is obvious that you do it for yourself.
Just as it is obvious when someone starts shooting for commercial purposes.
Anyone who is doing it professionally/commercially have clearance..

is it allowed to give the cosplayers whom you photographed a link to your deviant art / flikr page (on a business card or something), just so that they can find the pictures you took of them?
It's a little bit of promoting but it's not like you get money for it

Thanks for the fast replies! I like to take photographs for myself, so no commercial purpose involved. Photography is a hobby of mine, so I have bought a nice camera I also think it is a nice idea to give those cards to cosplayers. Maybe not all of them will be interested, but it is a nice token of gratitude. You are taking pictures and you can sent them the pictures for free (by mail).

Well last year I had my photos taken by quite some people and it took me pretty long to find all of them. So it goes faster like that. I'll probably stop cosplaying after this year, and I'll be going into photography myself, so I was planning on making "business cards" so that people can find their pictures I took off them.

Me and The Farmer Crew will do our fun FACTS report for the third time this year, untill now we didn't need any press allowances or cards. We just do it and everyone has fun with the result
