Indeed i think everybody had a great time, except for the music requests that is but that's only a little minor detail wich we can deal with next year

I will admit, I would be in favor of having the party more close to the Expo next year. First of all because the gap in scheduling already means everybody splits off to different sections of Gent, with less chance of getting back together at the Twieoo (which is pretty much at the other end of town), and returning to your hotel when the party is over.

When you're staying at the Holiday Inn, for example, you either need to walk for over 2 miles or have someone that can drive you if you want to have a beer during the evening, both of which may not be entirely practical for everyone.

Let's play the what-if game here, but: If there would be a party somewhere really close to the FACTS venue (say, at the Holiday Inn), but it costs a few Euros to attend, would you show up for it and how much would you be willing to spend to make it happen?

The most important thing here is that the FACTS party is supposed to enhance the social gatherings that are already happening at the convention. So people will get together and be more inclined to stay together after the event closes on Saturday evening, possibly have dinner as a group and move onwards to the party. That's easier to do if your party venue is nearby. (and possibly close to the place you use to sleep, shower and change. )
