It's well made with special effects and such but the story lacked some depth. It was from director Rin Taro (Black jack).
Came out last year and now you can find it for about 10 Euro (http://www.dvdzone2.com/dvd/detail.asp?id=120119) or on FACTS.
By the way, the Decascoop showed it (together with 9 other anime) two years ago in the weekend of FACTS, this being our first collaboration with the Filmfestival of Gent.

it's a lovely movie, it has great music, love animation, everything you'd want! and, imho, the plot goes way deep: it can still be adapted to today's society...

Maybe it's just my taste but I didn't like the movie at all... Agreed, the plot was good, but the animation was for kids

I liked it... It looks great, and has a good soundtrack. The story is a little slow and cliché in my opinion, but overall it's still worth seeing.
I bought that 2 disc edition for 11€, and it's worth it!

I really liked it. The childlike innoence of the drawings is deceptive. Osamu Tezuka drives home some hard points unerneath this "childlike innocence". I would also recomend his manga "Ayako", which has been translated to french and published by Delcourt. There is even a Dutch translation of Astroboy.
