greetings, my first posting on this board, I am part of the R2Builders group atending the convention each year, with a multitude of Astromech droids. and as the convention is drawing near, I thought I'd post some pics of my Stargate replica model I made, and will bring to FACTS the gate itself is 1 metre (40Inch) in diameter !!, and is lit by 72 leds that can be switched in two modes so here are the pics (mods: I don't know if I can post pics into the posting, so make them links if need be ) larger versions here: tinyurl.com/hmdrwtinyurl.com/fudc9tinyurl.com/fvaf8and vids www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qy132dPGiVkwww.youtube.com/watch?v=uoEwyaOHnf4Xeno

FYI, you will found the R2-builders at the stand of the Belgian Costume Division, who's proud to have them as guests each year. I'll be happy to provide that gate with a cheesy spot for display.

Wow, I can't wait to see.
And of course, the cute little R2D2's... I really enjoyed those guys last year, even though one of em was literally chasing me, hitting my ankles in the process.

man, that's so cool...
Where do you have it in your house? Is it on display, or somewhere out of sight?

it's currently hangin on my wall, like in the second small movie, because I had to have some room to build the next one Finn, if it was a big red droid, then I'm sorry it was me , but last year there was so little room to drive around. I hope this year we'll have some more driving space. Xeno

You don't have to feel sorry. I instantly fell in love with the little thing. I love the R2D2's a lot and I'm glad they're coming back to FACTS this year. Actually it added some personality to the little robot, by chasing and teasing the visitors a little. So, if you want to do it again, be my guest. I don't mind.

I have to say that i admire, people who can build those kind of things, build somethings like these and keeping an eye on the details, i'm jealous with my 2 left hands. . .

I took a picture and I'm going to add a wormhole to it. Have been doing nothing else these last few days but manipulating people's pictures. And it's so much fun

it was so cool to stand there, i wish i could have dialed out on the DHD or something... *happy* The idea of our entire Stargate-project is that the DHD will have certain buttons that light up as though they are being dialed. The 7 buttons already looked different than the others for those of you who took a closer look, so now you know why. The Stargate itself is meant to be motorised, with lighted chevrons, projection of the kawoosh and the puddle effect, noise and it should be possible for our folks in gear to step through.

The idea of our entire Stargate-project is that the DHD will have certain buttons that light up as though they are being dialed. The 7 buttons already looked different than the others for those of you who took a closer look, so now you know why. The Stargate itself is meant to be motorised, with lighted chevrons, projection of the kawoosh and the puddle effect, noise and it should be possible for our folks in gear to step through. BTW, common misconception: Dialing the gate through DHD does *not* spin. The spinning is done as a "manual dial" fallback, which is being exploited by the SGC because they don't have a DHD on hand. It may be a pretty advanced form of manual dialing, but from the gate's POV, it's still a manual dial. On the actual set, the gate spins and chooses its chevrons in a fully automated manner, just like it would on the in-series SGC. Still, the spinning looks awesome, and you might be able to do a situation where your DHD is bust and you will need to do a manual. The Atlantis/Pegasus gate, for comparison, is unable to spin, and is fully "electronic". It also has fewer symbols on the inner ring (36 vs. 39 on the Earth gate) and one of the symbols doubles up as a point of origin symbol. It also features "Caller ID" to some extent.

I like the spinning, but I have to admit I'm completely in love with the Atlantis-gate.

I like the spinning, but I have to admit I'm completely in love with the Atlantis-gate. Same here. The Pegasus gate has better lighting and, to be honest, blue looks a lot more sci-fi than the 'old and rusty' gray and red Earth one does. Plus the fact that it's easier to build -- the Pegasus gate is entirely electronic. (And no, I'm not even going into the whole "wobbly gate" matter. Just check the season 1 DVD box sets for that. ;D)
