Considering there seems to be a large AH fanbase here, I'll probably not make myself very popular with the following comments. But I still feel like expressing my opinion about Adam Hughes' presence at FACTS. Let's maybe start with something positive, to make it clear that I'm not hard to please and usually a very understanding person. Jusko and Deodato Jr. were great! My respect to both these guys. Very professional, very friendly and not minding to make some free time for the fans! First of all, let's make clear this is not about AH being sick. That's an unfortunate thing and it's nice he still showed up anyway. So, I fully respect that and I'm certainly not a heartless person! But what was AH's reason for being there? He certainly didn't seem interested in meeting fans, was not too excited to sign comics and I didn't see him do a single free sketch (and yes, I know he did some). All that seemed to matter was doing commissioned work, which means a detailed sketch for 150 euro and which took like 90 minutes to do (with a list of 10 for one day, that doesn't leave any time for anything else). And no, this is not a discussion about whether or not this is the right amount for a commission. Actually, I think it's a fair price and from what I could see, it was worth it. But do you have to come to a convention for this? Most artists, AH included, have a personal website where you can simply ask for a commissioned piece. I waited for almost 3 hours and didn't even get a single comic signed. So, what was the point of him being there? I've got absolutely nothing against commissions, but IMHO it's not something that should be done at a convention where you're invited. And to make another thing clear, I don't mind that an artist asks a small fee for his work. Deodato asked 25 euro for a more than decent sketch and Jusko had an even better system where buying a reasonable priced print gave you right to a sketch. Neither of them minded signing you comics and were more than happy to do so. I don't know about the other artists that were there, but from what I could tell, there weren't any problems with them either. All I can say is that I was seriously disappointed by AH's behaviour. I've met bigger names than him, but none of them ever acted this way. He surely has changed since I last met him in 1996. Now I understand he can limit himself to drawing some monthly covers. I'm sure the brady bunch from Holland was very happy with his presence, but to me it was completely pointless. Maybe next time you guys can simply put up a sign showing "this artist is only here to make some quick bucks doing commissioned work". To the FACTS people, this is in NO WAY meant as criticism on your work. While this was not my favourite FACTS edition (last year was better, as far as I'm concerned), you guys did a great job as always! All the other guests, or at least the ones I visited, were great as far as I'm concerned. And I'll be there next year, just as I've been there every year since 1992! But I found it important to let you know my thoughts about this subject. It's up to you what you want to do with it.

you are entitled to it and since this is an open forum and you did indeed make it perfect clear that you are not just dissin'...I see no reason to delete it One thing: did you come on SAT or SUN? besides that point... - AH! is a shy person which means he IS there for the fans but he is just not really talkative. - he made a commission-list on SAT and only 4 or 5 got done due to his illness and his crazy fans - he did sign a shotload of signing, so I am not sure why he did not do it for you. Did you ask Allison? She spoke FOR him, thus enabling him to deliver the good s as best as he can! Or you could have asked me as I was running around there for two days! - commissioning on conventions are done by many artists, due to their fans at the exact place AND the fact that at home the deadlines of DC/Marvel/Image/fillinblank starts again. Even beyond those commissions, AH! has made timeperiods for quick headsketches and on Sunday he was still drawing over an hour after the show was closed! How is that for addressing his fanbase! so your remark is just a tad too snarly for my liking. 150 E is not much for a commission, at least not for him. And him doing 5 ...is not equal to making quick bucks!!

Had a great time at FACTS !! Adam couldn't finish my commission sad enough but still was nice meeting him . And he is a very shy person !! has nothing to do with him beeing too big for his fans , if you want to know if he's feeling allright you should ask Alison . She does indeed talk for him . He made a lot of free sketches and signed a lot of books and the hours of when he was doing those were written on a paper at his stand .

you are entitled to it and since this is an open forum and you did indeed make it perfect clear that you are not just dissin'...I see no reason to delete it Thanks. I appreciate that! On Saturday. I waited from 13:15 till 16:00 and then called it quits. And while I think his illness played a major factor, I still don't consider this the perfect system. If you count 60 minutes/sketch, and I think it took longer, that's already 5 hours (and he had a list of 10 BTW). That basically doesn't leave any time for anything else and that's why I don't believe this was the right place for it. It would have been better to simply stick to commissions only in that case. This might be the way AH usually does cons, but it's in strong contrast with the other guests, past and present. There's no denial AH is a d**ned good artist. But I didn't see people such as George Pérez, Jim Lee or Joe Jusko pull tricks like this. So, being great doesn't give you any special privileges as far as I'm concerned. Maybe I make this sounds more negative than it actually was. Let's just stick to the fact that this was not exactly what I've come to expect of a guest artists. As for your other point. I'm a well behaved person who simply waits his turn in line. I don't see why I would have to start whining to you or his wife to get my comics signed. But after 3 hours, I kind'a made my own conclusions. You're right. I made it sound a bit too negative (actually, I did that on purpose). Still, I don't know how much you make a month, but 10x150 = 1500 euro. It takes me more than 2 days to get this. But you're right. 150 euro is quite normal for a commission and there's some artists I would have no problem paying this to. But I stick to the fact that I believe this was not the right time & place to do commissions. Maybe we better leave it at that and start looking forward to next year's edition.

I believe he is worling on a LARA also, but that is a commission he took on as a personal favour and is being handled outside the convention...which is very rare.

Adam Hughes Marries Allison Sohn With The One RingComic book legend Adam Hughes has just married long time partner Allison Sohn, as familiar a face at comics conventions as Adam and a popular sci-fi/fantasy painter in her own right. And what’s more, they used a replica of the One Ring from the Lord Of The Rings novels and movies to do the deed, ensuring their marriage goes down in geek legend. No news as to whether they had hobbits as pages. SOURCE www.bleedingcool.com/2010/09/01/adam-hughes-marries-allison-sohn-with-the%5C-one-ring/
